Top 5 Reasons you SHOULD Register for Baby Clothes
Posted on 12 February 2017
You can find a million articles on the internet telling that there’s one thing you don’t need to add to your baby registry. What’s that one thing? Baby clothes!
Well, I’m here to tell you why the collective wisdom of the internet is wrong.
Let’s take a moment to follow the thought process. It goes a little something like this: people will buy you baby clothes—no matter what—so there’s no need to add them to your registry. And I agree wholeheartedly with the first half of that statement…people WILL buy you baby clothes. No matter what—they will. Why? Because they are fun to buy. It’s not about you, it’s about them. Aunts, grandmas, and best friends seriously cannot help themselves. Show them some adorable clothes in miniature version and it’s all over. They might as well hand over their wallets.
Since it’s 100% guaranteed that your friends and family WILL buy baby clothes for your newborn, the only real question is whether or not you want any say in what they buy.
So without further ado, my top 5 reasons you SHOULD register for baby clothes:
1. Because Aunt Mary’s fashion sense is not on point.
Unless your last name is Versace or Armani…your family’s fashion sense is probably questionable at best. What Grandma Sally thinks is adorable might be vomit inducing and that must-have outfit from Aunt Mary is totally cringeworthy. And by the way, they probably bought those newborn clothes from some random store (where you’re not registered,) so good luck returning it.
2. Because clothing needs to be on point, AND on season.
Most gift givers love newborn clothes because they are tiny and adorable and they cannot wait to see the new baby wearing it. Unfortunately, that means they may not consider the season and weather you need to dress your baby for. Ideally, you want a variety of clothing that spans the seasons and corresponds to the age & size your baby will be as the seasons change. Which brings me to my next point….
3. Variety is the spice of life.
Undoubtedly, the majority of clothing you receive will be for newborns and 0-3 month old babies. (Which, by the way, is the age range when doctors want you doing skin to skin non-stop and when you’re not doing skin-to-skin, your baby could live in footed pajamas 24/7.)
I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again, you really want a variety of clothing that spans the seasons & ages. If you register for baby clothes, you can make this happen.
4. Find Clothing as Unique as Your Baby
Most moms think their new baby is the most adorable, precious, unique little creature in the world (and rightly so!) Therefore, you might not want to dress them in the exact same outfit from Carter’s, Gerber, or Target that literally every other baby on the planet is wearing. If you register for baby clothes, you can find items that are fun, unique, and reflective of you & your baby’s unique style.
5. Support small shops
One of the best ways to find fun, unique baby clothes is to shop small businesses. Here are Fayfaire we work with artists and graphic designs to create prints and designs that you cannot find anywhere else. I know many other small shops do the same. So if you want to find baby clothes that will get you tons of compliments, that no one has ever seen before, and you want to support small (often mom-owned) businesses, then add those items to your baby registry and spread the word.
Bottom line, if you want some creative control over your baby’s wardrobe, and you want to make sure the baby gifts you receive are put to good use….for God’s sake register for baby clothes! Make it easy for friends and family to buy you newborn clothing that you actually like and plan to use. It’s a win-win for everyone.
